CoMMERCIAL PARTNER

Matthew Tyrrell

Matthew is a Partner of Millwater Tyrrell Law and holds Bachelor Degrees in both Law and Business from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT).

Matthew commenced his legal career in 2007 working with the Queensland Government within the Department of Justice & Attorney General whilst completing his studies. He has worked under the guidance of nationally recognised and leading Commercial & Structuring Lawyers when working for a large National Law Firm. More recently Matthew has assisted the Ipswich and Greater Springfield community by legal practice in the local area.

Given the broad range of work Matthew was exposed to in the formative years of his career, his experience includes:

EXPERIENCE

  • Commercial Transactional Law

  • Commercial Structuring Law & Insolvency

  • Family Law

  • Criminal Law

Matthew comes from a family with a strong involvement within the Military and as such has a history of assisting men and women from within the armed services. This has given Matthew an in depth understanding of Military Superannuation and the unique challenges it brings to Family Law disputes.

The different opportunities I experienced throughout my legal career gave me the benefit of being exposed to all sorts of clients and lawyers, as well as enabling me to sharpen and refine my skills as a solicitor advocate.

“I think one of my strengths as a lawyer is that while I now primarily focus on Commercial Law within Millwater Tyrrell Law, my previous legal experiences and life experiences combined with being broadly  commercially minded enable me assist my clients by thinking laterally and not approaching any one particular issue from a narrow, overly compartmentalised approach. I think it is important to always evaluate a situation and all the complexities and issues that go with it.

When I act for a local person looking to lease premises, I know the geographical area and it’s nuances. When I act for a client purchasing a business, I am also conscious of their structuring and asset protection needs. It is these small differences that I believe really benefit my clients when we work together.”

Matthew appears as advocate in State and Federal Courts in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. He has also recently been a Board Member for the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce.

Matthew speaks Chinese as a result of completing a majority of his year 11 studies whilst living in ShangHai, China when he was 16.

Outside of the office, Matthew has a keen interest in Rugby League, the Netherlands national football side and thinks he has a knack of knowing which horses will run faster than others on any given day.
